President Werner Hoyer has represented the EIB at a ministerial pledging session during the 2016 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the WorId Bank Group in Washington, D.C. President Hoyer welcomed the progress achieved by the World Bank Group, the UN and the IsDB saying, “Our response, as Multilateral Development Banks, must be timely and relevant. Crucially, we must not lose sight of longer term needs. Even as the emergency continues, we must move from crisis management to crisis prevention.”
This pledging session, co-hosted by the UN, the World Bank and the Islamic Development Bank, served as a follow-up to the International Stakeholders' Roundtable Meeting for the MENA Region that took place in Lima on 10 October 2015. At this meeting, countries agreed on the need to explore new and innovative financing modalities to support countries in the MENA region affected by the Syrian refugee crisis, conflict and economic instability. The Spring 2016 session discussed developments and progress since Lima.
