Energy Access Ventures Fund invests in SMEs active in electricity generation and distribution, and electricity related services in Sub-Saharan Africa. The fund focuses on off-grid rural electrification, in particular solar home systems, micro-grid infrastructure and other small/micro-scale renewable energy and hybrid technologies. The Fund will start investing in companies with operations in East Africa before expanding to other Sub-Saharan African countries.
At target size, the Fund will have developed a portfolio of minority equity and quasi-equity interests in around 20 SMEs with investments in the EUR 0.5 to EUR 3m range.
Over its lifetime, the Fund aims to provide access to electricity to at least one million low-income beneficiaries, located in rural and semi-urban areas and who lack (reliable) access to electricity.
