Lithuania and the EIB

We have supported the modernisation and greening of Lithuania’s transport system with electric and battery-powered trains and contributed to the development of the vibrant Klaipėda seaport. We have expanded a key hydroelectric power plant and introduced modern, more sustainable heating solutions to Kaunas. In partnership with Lithuania, we have transformed schools, healthcare facilities, museums, public gardens, cycling paths, and streetlights, while also launching a greener housing initiative.

President Calviño completes tour of 27 EU capitals

Over the past 12 months the president of the European Investment Bank Group, Nadia Calviño has travelled across the European Union, from Stockholm to Nicosia, Vilnius to Valletta, Madrid to Zagreb, listening to the views of finance ministers, prime ministers and presidents, engaging with partners, gaining insights into current projects financed by the European Union and giving shape to the EIB Group’s 8 strategic priorities.

Lithuania and the EIB

We have worked in Lithuania since 1994, supporting local small and medium-sized enterprises and modernising infrastructure. Through co-financing of EU structural funds, we helped to refurbish schools and healthcare facilities, museums, public gardens, cycling paths and streetlights. We have also supported green maritime transport with the development of Klaipėda seaport, which is the main port connection in Lithuania, part of the TEN-T North Sea-Baltic corridor.
