Case Description
The complaint
In October 2022, the EIB-CM received a complaint from an individual affected by the construction of the G1 Pénétrante Sud road, in Tunis. The complainant informed that he verbally received a request for expropriation from the Tunisian authorities, in the context of the road project. Besides, the complainant was offered a financial compensation but he considered it to be insufficient in view of the potential financial losses of this project.
As part of its inquiry, the EIB-CM reviewed the complaint, as well as the information and clarifications provided by the relevant EIB Group Services. In particular, the EIB-CM reviewed the additional information that was provided at a later stage in March 2023 that included a re-evaluation of the proposed compensation by the court expert.
Conclusions
Based on the information provided by the complainant in March 2023, the EIB-CM took note that the complainant had challenged the offered compensation at the national court, the process that subsequently led to a revised financial offer. The EIB-CM held a conference call with the complainant who confirmed that he is satisfied with the new offer and considered the matter settled.
Outcome
In light of the above, the EIB-CM closes the complaint with no recommendations.
