Case Description

Complaint

On 21 April 2016, the EIB Complaints Mechanism (EIB-CM) received a complaint from an individual concerning the expropriation of his property within the framework of the EIB’s project “Georgia East-West Highway”. The complainant raised allegations relating to the calculation of the compensation for the expropriation of his land for the construction of a road. The allegations concern two aspects: false categorisation of property and omission to compensate for costs incurred upon the complainant.

The complaint concerns the provision of an investment loan which aims at upgrading the most Western part of the Georgian East-West highway, which links the cities Zestaponi and Batumi and comprises a total length of 183 km. The section financed by the EIB concerns the 68 km long sub-section between Samtredia and Choloki.
