Learning and development opportunities. A diverse environment. Flexible working arrangements. An attractive remuneration package. What if someone told you that you have just found an employer able to offer you all of this and more?
At the European Investment Bank, investing in our colleagues is as important as investing in the projects we finance. We aim to offer an enriching professional environment where you will find numerous opportunities to develop while enjoying your personal and family life.
We are the bank of the European Union. We finance sustainable projects that have a positive impact on the lives of EU citizens and communities around the world.
We back a broad variety of projects, from large infrastructure (like the Øresund bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden), to scientific research (like the development of new treatments to find a cure for cancer).
We interact with people from across Europe and the world. We offer a diverse environment where everyone can thrive and bring their own uniqueness to the table.
We believe in allowing you to cultivate your personal life and enjoy a work-life balance by offering flexible working arrangements (e.g. part-time, teleworking).
To fulfil our mission it is important for you to be able to work at the maximum of your capabilities and strive to develop your skills and competencies.
We provide a wide range of learning opportunities, as well as internal mobility and transversal projects.
Growing talent is at the heart of our people management approach. We believe all our colleagues have their own talent (skills, cognitive abilities, knowledge) and potential to do their job well. Together with your manager, you will be actively involved in building your future career.
Your performance will be assessed and recognised, and we will give you the opportunity to cultivate the right skills and competencies to do your job at your best.
Through our talent management approach, your career perspectives, ambitions and skills will be evaluated and managed to help you find the most suitable role within our EIB team!
Our career development and learning offer aims to enhance your performance at work by developing your skills and competencies, to help you overcome your current and future professional challenges.
From your first day, you will experience our comprehensive on-boarding programme, which will help you navigate around our activities and business areas, and meet new colleagues.
We have a wide range of training and development opportunities to cover all your business needs.
As a long term employer, the engagement and satisfaction of our people is key. And as the EU's climate bank, our goal is to preserve nature for future generations. Working remotely allows to minimise commuting time, thus reducing our environmental footprint, while responding to our staff’s preference for flexible working. We have implemented a new hybrid working model, to allow employees to combine, where possible, remote with onsite working.

Salary increase and promotion to higher responsibilities are based on performance and professional development. Evaluation of merit is expressed in a performance profile following an annual performance evaluation exercise conducted by management for all staff members.
We may distribute, under certain conditions, an annual performance award. In 2023, this represented approximately 16% of the total annual salary mass.
The performance award is distributed to staff based partly on the Bank’s performance and partly on individual contribution and performance. The total annual net performance award cannot exceed 35% of an individual’s annual base salary.
We offer a large range of benefits to all our staff members, based on eligibility criteria.
The Protocol of Privileges and Immunities of the European Union applies to our staff.
You are liable to pay income tax to the European Union on your EIB salary and pensions. We withhold this tax at source. You are exempt from paying national taxes on your EIB income.
The tax scale is progressive: the greater the taxable income, the higher the rate of tax. The scale is divided into income brackets with increasing percentages of taxation, from 0% to 45%. The original tax scale was laid down in 1968 by EC Regulation No 260/68 on tax, with a coefficient of 100%. This coefficient is readjusted on a regular basis by the Council of Ministers of the European Union and published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
The remuneration of staff hired directly at a post in an external office within the EU may be adapted to the costs of living of the respective country.
GRADs will receive an annual gross salary equal to the minimum of the salary band for grade level 3 for fixed-term and indefinite contracts.
GRADs are not eligible for performance-related awards.
All our benefits are subject to eligibility criteria, and are based on personal circumstances. You will be asked to provide evidence to justify your entitlements, and changes in personal circumstances may imply a change in the allowances/benefits entitlement.
