Albania: EIB Global continues to bolster sustainable transportation in the Western Balkans with €100 million signed for the EU-financed Vorë-Hani i Hotit railway line
EIB Global, the arm of the European Investment Bank (EIB) for financing activities outside the European Union, has signed a €100 million loan with Albania under a Team Europe financial package for the modernisation and electrification of a 120 km railway line from Vorë in central Albania to Hani i Hotit on the border with Montenegro. The project is in line with strategic EU support for the construction and rehabilitation of key railway sections in the Western Balkans, aiming to increase the accessibility and attractiveness of the rail transportation, contributing to socioeconomic development, better trade links, the shift to more sustainable modes of transport and the decarbonisation of local economies.
Albania: EIB Global deploys additional support to improve water distribution system in Tirana
EIB Global, the arm of the European Investment Bank for activities outside the European Union, will provide a €1 million technical assistance grant to help the Tirana municipality improve its water distribution network and ensure a stable and continuous water supply. The advisory support will enable the successful rollout of a project aiming to improve the water distribution system in the Municipality of Tirana, while strengthening the implementation capacities of the Tirana water company (UKT). Once completed, the investment will help improve access to water supply for over 800 000 people, reduce water losses and modernise the city’s water management system.
Albania: EIB Global supports sustainable development in Northern Albania
EIB Global, the arm of the Bank focused on operations outside the European Union, will provide a €2.75 million technical assistance grant to the Albanian Development Fund (ADF) for the preparation of a priority investment programme. The programme will cover the area close to the border with Montenegro along Lake Shkodër and the Buna River at the main gateway to the Albanian Alps. After the completion of an integrated tourism and urban development strategy — which is also part of the EIB’s advisory support — this technical assistance will focus on delivering environmental, technical and social assessments and on bringing the selected projects closer to the implementation phase.
