The EIB will host a workshop entitled “EIB’s investment in the water sector in ACP countries” on Thursday 12th September at its premises in Brussels, including a showcase of the Malawi Peri-Urban Water and Sanitation project, signed in 2008, which helped to bring safe drinking water to 723,000 people and basic sanitation to 468,000 people in low income areas in the cities of Blantyre and Lilongwe. The EIB has invested nearly EUR 450m in water & sanitation projects in the ACPs and OCTs since 2003.
It is the second workshop in a series showcasing the Bank’s activities in different sectors in the ACP regions, following the success of the first event on the theme of financial inclusion, held in November 2012. Speakers include EIB experts, the final beneficiary of the loan for the project, and a local NGO partner in the project’s implementation. This event will gather together representatives of other Brussels- based institutions, Member States, the private sector, civil society and peer development finance institutions to discuss the topic. The event is by invitation only and has been organised with the support of the EU Delegation in Malawi.
