Luxembourg - Wilhelm Molterer has been appointed Vice-President and member of the Management Committee of the European Investment Bank (EIB). He took up his duties on 1 July 2011, succeeding Eva Srejber, whose term of office as EIB Vice-President had ended.
Wilhelm Molterer is an Austrian national. He was appointed by the EIB’s Board of Governors on a proposal from the Finance Minister of the Republic of Austria and with the agreement of the constituency formed by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Sweden.
Wilhelm Molterer said on being appointed: “I am pleased to be able to work in an institution that makes such a decisive contribution to the economic, social and technological development of the European Union. With its financing, the European Investment Bank supports sustainable and inclusive growth in Europe. It has especially proved to be reliable long-term provider of finance to the small and medium-sized businesses that are so vital to our economy.”
Before joining the EIB, Wilhelm Molterer was an Austrian Member of Parliament for many years, holding a variety of political positions. From 11 January 2007 to 2 December 2008 he was Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister of the Republic of Austria, in which capacity he was one of the EIB’s 27 Governors. From 1994 to 2003 he was Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management. Wilhelm Molterer has a Master’s in economics and social sciences from the University of Linz and a degree from St. Florian Agricultural College in Austria.
