On Thursday 20 December, European Investment Bank President Werner Hoyer received Jean Asselborn, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, at the Bank’s headquarters in Kirchberg.
Mr Hoyer and Mr Asselborn discussed the part that the EIB, as the EU’s financing institution, is playing in promoting economic recovery in Europe as well as the support the EIB enjoys from its host country Luxembourg, with its close links to the EU institutions. Their talks covered various topical European economic and political issues. They also discussed the tasks that will be facing Luxembourg’s Foreign Affairs Ministry when the country takes up its seat at the United Nations Security Council for two years in January 2013.
Mr Hoyer concluded the meeting by saying: “I am full of admiration for Luxembourg’s deep commitment, particularly in Europe to furthering the European integration process, but also throughout the world to promoting economic cooperation and development through its foreign policy.”
