The European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Union in Morocco and the Ministry of National Education, Pre-School and Sport (MENPS) officially launched in Rabat on Tuesday 15 October 2024 a technical assistance initiative to support implementation of a national programme to build and transform more than 150 community schools in rural areas of the Kingdom of Morocco. The kick-off meeting was chaired by Minister of National Education, Pre-School and Sport Chakib Benmoussa and was attended by the Head of the EIB Representation in Morocco Adrien de Bassompierre and the Head of EU Cooperation in Morocco Jean-Christophe Filori.
On 10 October 2024, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced the signing of an agreement with the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of National Education, Pre-School and Sport, the Infrastructure and Water Ministry, and the Health Ministry, for an amount of €500 million (around MAD 5.4 billion). This is the first tranche of a total loan amount of €1 billion to help rebuild public infrastructure in the regions affected by the earthquake of 8 September 2023.
On 9 October, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Morocco's national railway operator, the Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF), signed a technical assistance partnership agreement to create a climate resilience and adaptation strategy for the Moroccan rail network.
