Following the formation of the new Romanian Government, Mr Florin Georgescu has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Finance. He has also become EIB Governor for Romania, succeeding Mr Bogdan Alexandru Dragoi.
Before his appointment in the Government, Mr Georgescu was Vice Chairman of the Board and First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania since October 2004. From October 2004 to December 2010, he was also member of the Banking Supervision Committee of the European Central Bank. Between December 1996 and April 2004 he served as Deputy and was Chaiman of the Budget, Finance and Banks Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.
Mr Georgescu was also Minister of State and Minister of Finance from November 1992 to December 1996. During the same period he served as governor representing Romania at the IBRD and at the EBRD. He is a Professor at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies where he teaches “Currency and Credit” since 1999.
Born in 1953 in Bucharest, Mr Georgescu has studied at the International Institute for Management Development, Lausanne, Switzerland (May 2004), the University of Missouri Kansas City, Kansas City, USA (1991-1992) and at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (1989).
