Following the formation of a new Government after recent elections in Slovenia, Mr Janez Šušteršič has been appointed Minister of Finance. He has also become EIB Governor for Slovenia, succeeding Mr Franc Križanič.
Prior to his new position within the Government, Mr Šušteršič was an associate professor of economics at the Faculty of Management in Koper, University of Primorska and a professor at the School of Advanced Social Studies in Nova Gorica as well at the International School for Social and Business Studies in Celje.
Between 2001 and 2007, Mr Šušteršič was director of the Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development of the Republic of Slovenia (UMAR) and Vice-President of the Reform Committee. During the same period, he was also national coordinator for the Lisbon Strategy.
From 2005 to 2007, he served as Vice-President of the Economic Policy Committee to the ECOFIN. Born in 1966 in Slovenia, Mr Šušteršič holds a PhD in transition economics from Ljubljana University.
