Following the formation of a new government in Belgium, Mr Johan Van Overtveldt has been appointed Minister of Finance. He also becomes Governor of the European Investment Bank.
Before his appointment in the government, Mr Van Overtveld had recently been elected as a member of the European Parliament.
Based on the information currently available on the website of his political party (Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie), Mr Van Overtveldt worked as a journalist for the economic weekly “Trends Magazine” from 1978 until 1982, where he became Editor in Chief from 1992 to 1999 and from 2010 to 2013. He was also Editor in Chief of the economic weekly “Knack” from 2011 to 2012.
From 1987 to 1991 he was CEO of the company Shoekonfex and worked at Bank Brussel Lambert (now ING) from 1982 to 1987.
Mr Van Overtveldt is a Professor in Economics at Hasselt University since 2012.
He has a PhD and a Degree in Applied Economics from Antwerpen University and a Master in Business Administration from Leuven University.
