Ms Lene Espersen has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic and Business Affairs of Denmark as from 10 September 2008, succeeding Mr Bendt Bendtsen, and thus also becomes EIB Governor for Denmark.
Born in 1965, Ms Espersen graduated in Economics from the University of Aarhus.
On 9 September 2008, she was elected as the new leader of the Conservative People's Party in Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen's centre-right coalition.
Until her appointment as Minister for Economic and Business Affairs on 10 September 2008, Ms Espersen had, since November 2001, held the position of Minister of Justice in the Cabinets of Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
She has been a member of Parliament since 1994.
