Following recent changes in the Polish government, Mr Mateusz Szczurek was appointed Minister of Finance on 27 November 2013. He also becomes EIB Governor for the Republic of Poland, succeeding Mr Jan Vincent Rostowski.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Szczurek was Chief Economist for Central and Eastern Europe at ING Group in Warsaw.
From 1997 to 2011, he was Economist at ING Barings, and then Chief Economist at ING Bank Śląski.
Mr Szczurek completed econometrics courses at the International Center for Money and Banking Studies in Geneva and London in 1998 and 2007. He participated in a joint programme from 1994 – 1997 and achieved a Bachelor of Arts from Warsaw University and Columbia University in the City of New York, School of International and Public Affairs.
In 1997, he obtained his Masters in international economy and holds a PhD from the University of Sussex.
Mr Szczurek, who was born in 1975, is also a lecturer of economics at Warsaw School of Economics, University of Sussex and Goethe Business School, Frankfurt.
