In March 2018, Mr Olaf SCHOLZ has been appointed as Federal Minister of Finance. He also becomes EIB Governor for the Federal Republic of Germany, succeeding Mr Peter ALTMAIER.
From February to April 2018, Mr SCHOLZ was Acting chair of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.
Mr SCHOLZ was Mayor of Hamburg from 2011 to 2018 and from 2009 to 2011 served as Deputy chair of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
Mr SCHOLZ served as Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs from 2007 to 2009.
In addition, from 1998 to 2001 and from 2002 to 2011, Mr SCHOLZ was a Member of the German Bundestag.
Mr SCHOLZ served as First Parliamentary Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Germany from 2005 to 2007.
Earlier in his career, Mr SCHOLZ held the position of Interior Minister of the city-sate of Hamburg.
Mr SCHOLZ studied at the University of Hamburg and qualified as a lawyer.
