Following recent elections in the Republic of Bulgaria, a new government was sworn in on 30 May 2013 with Mr Petar Chobanov appointed as Minister of Finance. He also becomes EIB Governor for the Republic of Bulgaria succeeding Mr Kalin Hristov.
Born in Yambol on 20 July 1976, Associate Professor Petar Chobanov is lecturer in international finance at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia. From May 2009 to June 2010, he was Chairman of the Financial Supervision Commission. Over the period October 2005 to May 2009, he served as Executive Director of the Agency for Economic Analysis and Forecasts where he participated in the drafting of strategic programme documents, including the Convergence Programme and the National Strategic Reference Framework. Previously, Mr Chobanov was Chief Expert at the Bulgarian National Bank, where he developed analyses and regular quarterly strategies for international currency reserves management.
Mr Petar Chobanov has a Master Degree in Macroeconomics (2000) and a PhD in Finance (2006) from the University of National and World Economy.
