President Hoyer met Monday 11 June with P. Nikiforos Diamandouros, the European Ombudsman. It was the first meeting between MM Hoyer and Diamandouros. They discussed current issues and underlined the very satisfactory cooperation between the EIB and the European Ombudsman. The European Ombudsman was “created” by the Maastricht Treaty of 1992 – as a completely independent and impartial position to investigate complaints about maladministration in the institutions and bodies of the European Union.
The 9th Annual Meeting of the International Financial Institutions independent accountability mechanisms to be held for the first time at the EIB on 26-27 September 2012 will offer an excellent opportunity to further enhance the cooperation between the EIB and the European Ombudsman.
