Description
The project consists of the new construction (section Viskali to Koknese) and upgrading (section Tinuzi to Viskali) of the single carriageway section Riga (Tinuzi) to Koknese on the E22 corridor, and reconstruction of associated access roads.
Objectifs
The project will improve traffic conditions, reduce travel time and improve road safety on the E22 road corridor, which is part of the TEN-T and the main East-West road connection linking Riga with Russia.

Aspects environnementaux
The project falls under Annex II of the EIA Directive 85/337/EEC as amended (codified by Directive 2011/92/EU of 13 December 2011). Hence the competent authority decides on the requirement of a full EIA. Compliance with the SEA and EIA Directives, the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) and Birds Directives (79/409/EEC) and NATURA 2000 will be verified duing appraisal.
Passation des marchés
The contracting authority is required to comply with regulations governing the procurement of publicly financed projects in the EU and national public procurement legislation. The construction works and associated supervision are being procured by the promoter in accordance with Directive 2004/18/EC through restricted tender after publication in the OJEU. Details will be examined during appraisal.
