The inaugural African edition of the European Investment Bank Climate Survey provides some insights. The majority of Africans report that climate changes are already having repercussions on their everyday lives and income.
What Africans think:
- 88% believe that climate changes are already impacting their daily lives
- 61% think that climate changes and environmental harm have affected their incomes or livelihoods
- 76% believe a priority should be given to renewable energies
The survey results came at a critical moment for Africa, following COP 27, where the central issues were finding more resources to mitigate global warming and adapting to its effects. A decisive agreement was also made on a new “loss and damage” fund for vulnerable countries severely hurt by climate disasters.
