Description

Construction of an 855 Km (including by-passes and other links) high-speed rail line.

Objectives

The project is a key component of the Madrid-Barcelona-Perpignan-Montepellier TGV Sud, one of the priority TENs identified by the Essen European Council. It will also connect Spain's two largest cities and economic centres through a high-speed transport system adapted to high levels of demand along one of the more congested routes in Europe.

Environmental aspects

The promoter is required to respect the regulations imposed by European directives. In accordance with its normal procedure, the Bank will ensure that appropriate measures have been taken as regards environmental protection.

Procurement procedures applied by the promoter are in compliance with Council Directives applicable to public authorities' procurement, and national legislation. According to information provided by the promoter, all tenders were published in the EC Official Journal.
