Description

The project comprises the first phase of Wessex Water Services capital programme for the 2005-2010 period, which is approved and monitored by the industry regulator OFWAT. The project consists of a large number of water supply and wastewater schemes located throughout Wessex Water Services operating area.

Objectives

The proposed programme aims at supporting sustainable environmental and customer service standards set by EU and national legislation as well as regional development. The project will therefore contribute to improving the quality of life of the population in the South West of England.

Estimated to be some GBP 390 million.

Environmental aspects

The schemes included in the project fall under Annex II of EU Directive 97/11/EC. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedures are carried out where required by the competent authorities and mitigating measures are applied as appropriate.

Procurement

The project falls under the EU Procurement Directive 98/4/EC amending 93/38/EEC coordinating the procurement procedures of entities operating in the water, energy, transport and telecommunications sectors. The borrower has confirmed that it complies fully with its requirements in reference to the Procurement Directive and its amendment.
