Description

The project aims to restore original design parameters of the sections Mihaylovo-Kaloyanovetz, Stara Zagora-Zimnitza and Tzerkovsky-Burgas with a total refurbishment route of 177.4 km. The project is located on the TEN-T network and co-financed with the EU Cohesion Fund; the project has been prepared with Jaspers assistance.

Objectives

The project will contribute to reduce journey times for Freight and Passenger Traffic between Sofia and Burgas, and will improve the railway transport safety and the region connectivity.

Environmental aspects

The project falls under Annex II of the EIA Directive 85/337/EEC, as amended, and the Competent Authority decided (Decision Number 27-IIP/2009) that, in this case, no EIA is required and that the project is not likely to have significant effects on a site of nature conservation importance.

Procurement

The project has been procured by the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) and contracts have been awarded through international open tenders in accordance with the Directive 2004/18/EC.
