Description
The project concerns the third roll-out phase of a very-high speed broadband access network in Germany. The specific measures will include: - increased fiber coverage in the access network - installation of a more advanced copper access technology for additional 9% of German households to meet at least 30 Mbps - the roll-out of a latest innovation allowing for broadband speed levels up to even 250 Mbps The project will be implemented during 2017 and 2018.

The operation contributes to the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy and the Digital Agenda for Europe initiative.

Environmental aspects
Investments in fixed telecommunications projects (mainly civil works for urban underground copper/fibre roll-out) do not fall under Annex I and II of Directive 2011/92/EC as amended. The related works have typically limited residual environmental effects, as they are mainly carried out in urban areas alongside roads.
Procurement
Procurement is expected to be in line with EIB guidelines for private sector projects. The Bank's services will verify details during the project due diligence.
