Description
The project consists of the construction of a 32.5 km alternative road entirely within Croatia to bypass the two border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to cross the BiH Neum coastal land strip. The project includes the 2.4 km long Peljesac bridge and also 12 km of access roads, the improvement of 10.2 km of the existing D414 road and the construction of a 7.9 km bypass around the village of Ston.
Objectives
The project's objective is to connect the northern and southern parts of the Dubrovnik-Neretva county via the Peljesac peninsula with a road link entirely within Croatia.

Environmental aspects
The project will be required to comply with the relevant national legal framework, and to be in line with EU environmental policies. The Promoter has already provided some documentation, the compliance with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directives will be discussed and verified during appraisal.
Procurement
The promoter has to ensure that contracts for the implementation of the project have been/shall be tendered in accordance with the relevant applicable EU procurement legislation. During appraisal, the Bank will review the appropriateness of the procurement procedures and require that they are compliant with the applicable EU directives.
