Monique Koning was appointed Inspector General of the EIB in June 2023. She was previously a Director in the EIB’s Human Resources Directorate (2021-2023) and also served as a Director in the Bank’s Operations Directorate responsible for operational support and processes (2016-2021).
Monique Koning joined the EIB in 2007 as a Senior Loan Officer Project Finance for Africa, and in 2011 became Head of Division for Project Finance for outside the European Union (currently EIB Global), with a main focus on renewable energy.
Before joining the EIB, Monique Koning held various operational, policy and strategy functions in the World Bank Group where she worked from 1993 until 2007.
She started her professional career as a policy officer in the Treasury of the Ministry of Finance in the Netherlands and holds an MSc in macro-economics from the University of Amsterdam.
