Vice-President Wilhelm Molterer will take part in a discussion entitled “Building the future of the Danube Region: the Global Perspective” at the first Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. This high-level event is attracting several high level speakers including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Commissioner Johannes Hahn, as well as representatives from the business world, civil society and international organisations
Entitled "How can the Danube Region help to have a more competitive Europe" this is the first meeting of its kind since the strategy’s 2011 launch. It is organised in cooperation between the Government of Bavaria and the European Commission, will take place from 27-28 November in Regensburg (Bavaria), Germany.
Challenges and opportunities in the region
The focus of debate will be the challenges and opportunities of the Danube Region in terms of investment and economic competitiveness, for example in infrastructure development, and energy efficiency. The agenda provides an opportunity to consider how the Strategy can play its part in the implementation of the Europe 2020 Strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, and the Strategy's links with the new programming period for the EU Structural Funds (2014-2020).
