The Health Impact Investment Platform (HIIP) held its inaugural Steering Committee meeting yesterday, marking a significant milestone in advancing innovative financing for global health. As the Platform’s highest decision-making body, the Committee—consisting of representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Investment Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank—reviewed progress, endorsed key governance and operational priorities, and provided strategic guidance on HIIP’s efforts to expand primary health care (PHC) services in low- and middle-income countries. The meeting represents a significant step forward in advancing sustainable financing solutions for global health.
Today, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and eight Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) committed to enhancing water security globally through a joint statement delivered at the One Water Summit in Riyad, Saudi Arabia. The Summit, held alongside COP16 on desertification, brings together the heads of state and government to shape an agenda for international cooperation on water. The joint declaration aims to significantly increase support to the water sector in the five years between 2025 and 2030, particularly in vulnerable regions.
Today, the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) are announcing a new partnership to support investments in the EU’s battery manufacturing sector. This partnership will see a €200 million top-up (loan guarantee) to the InvestEU programme from the EU Innovation Fund. It comes in addition to €1 billion in grants to support electric vehicle battery cell manufacturing projects via the Innovation Fund, also announced today. As part of the new partnership, the EIB envisages investing a further €1.8 billion in the wider battery value chain. These joint efforts will result in €3 billion of public support in total for the development of a competitive and sustainable European battery industry.
