Following the recent changes in the Finnish government, Mr Alexander Stubb was appointed Minister of Finance on 29 May 2015 and has become the Governor of the European Investment Bank, succeeding Mr Antti Rinne.
Before his current appointment, Mr Stubb was the Prime Minister of Finland from 24 June 2014 to 29 May 2015.
He previously served as Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, EU affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Finance (June 2011-June 2014) and as Minister for Foreign Affairs (April 2008-June 2011). He has been the Leader of the National Coalition Party since 14 June 2014.
From 2004 to 2008, Mr Stubb was a Member of the European Parliament. He was a member of the Committee on Budgetary Control and the Vice-Chair for the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Policy. He was also a Deputy Member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs.
From 2003 to 2004, Mr Stubb worked at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the European Union in Brussels.
He was also the Adviser to the President of the European Commission from 2001 to 2003. From 2000 to 2007, Mr Stubb was the Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges. He has published 16 books as well as numerous articles and columns.
