Description
Design, construction and operation of two sugar refineries, related sugar handling and storage facilities, and the expansion of a sugar mill.
Objectives
In line with the Multi-annual adaptation strategy (MAAS) for the Mauritian sugar industry, the investment supports the industry in the move to a higher value added content of its produce through the sale of refined rather than raw sugar. The MAAS has been developed with funding from the EC Accompanying Measures for the ACP Sugar Protocol countries.

Environmental aspects
An EIA is required by the local legislation for each of the two projects. EIAs have been prepared by the promoters, and can be consulted on the web-site of the Ministry of Environment: http://environment.gov.mu.
Procurement
The promoters are private companies and are subject to the EIB’s guidelines on procurement to be adopted in the project in the components financed by the Bank.
