Starting in 2015, a new Neighbourhood Department has been created within the Operations Directorate in the EIB, bringing together the financing experts for both the Southern and Eastern Neighbourhood regions.
The lending teams are now organised around four thematic divisions: Banks, Corporates, and two Public Sector teams – one for the FEMIP countries and one for the Eastern Neighbours. There is also a team focused on Project Finance operations, in all countries outside the EU.
FEMIP staff continue to work closely with colleagues from across the Bank, including the Trust Funds and Blending Division, the Equity and Microfinance Division and the Coordination Division, with the Policy and Business Development Unit providing support for new initiatives. A strengthened Advisory Services Department, and notably the Technical Assistance Unit, supports FEMIP’s broad range of advisory services. FEMIP teams also work closely with the other operational and support teams across the Bank.
Local presence
- In addition to the Luxembourg staff, the EIB has four local offices in the Mediterranean region: in Cairo, Rabat, Tunis and Amman. These offices help to identify and follow up projects, facilitate the implementation and monitoring of advisory services and coordinate work with local public authorities, entrepreneurs, commercial banks and professional associations.
- As a core component of the Bank's relationship with the Union for the Mediterranean, the EIB seconds an expert to the UfM's Barcelona Secretariat.
